The Eastern Caribbean country of Antigua & Barbuda is actually made up of three sister islands and more than 30 outer islands. The largest and most densely populated is Antigua; Barbuda is known for its unique pink sand beaches and Redonda is a tiny uninhabited round rock island.
For a small island, Antigua has an extremely long coastline – over 90 miles in length and it is the country’s greatest natural attraction. It is said to have more bays and coves than other other Caribbean island!
Antigua’s many harbours and constant trade winds make the island a sailor’s paradise – whether cruising, racing or just exploring.
In the end of the 18th century more than 40 forts, about two miles apart, were built around Antigua to ensure its safety from the invasion.
